Job vacancy: Campaign Fundraiser – ASEED
20 hrs per week
1. General Introduction
ASEED Europe (Action for Sustainability, Environment, Equality and Diversity) is an international campaigning organisation that targets the structural causes of environmental destruction and social injustice and involves people in direct democracy.
We do this by campaigning about multi-national corporations and their national and international influence spheres and control tools. At the same time, we also promote sustainable alternatives. Currently, ASEED Europe focuses on issues related to the global food chain: power concentration by global agro/biotech giants, GMO, seeds and patenting. Our general campaign goal is to promote food autonomy.
ASEED was established as an international network by engaged youth in 1991, in response to the UNCED Earth Summit proceedings in Rio de Janeiro. It aimed then to forge alliances among young people worldwide committed to social and environmental justice. Today ASEED is an Amsterdam based campaigning organization, run by a small team working together in a consensus-seeking, non-hierarchical structure. In addition to our local activities, ASEED is also often involved in international actions and events extending beyond the Netherlands.
The current ASEED team is comprised of a combination of paid and unpaid positions. Funding for ASEED’s campaigns and activities comes from a variety of grants and individual donations. With this fundraiser position, we want to bring more structure and continuity in our campaigning, networking and fundraising activities, with a strong focus on getting the fundraising up to speed.
2. Place within the organisation:
The role of this position is that of a fundraising and campaign activity developer. Together with the rest of the ASEED team, s/he represents ASEED towards external parties and funders.
Within the framework of the campaigns, which are developed in a participatory and non-hierarchical way by the team, the advisory council and the board, the fundraiser’s responsibility is to develop and implement the fundraising and campaign strategy. S/he keeps the fundraising and campaigns developments on due course, while also keeping a general overview of current activities. Fundraising is a critical element of the position.
Structural sources of funding are challenging for our small NGO, and we are looking to revitalize the organization towards a sustainable funding scenario.
The fundraiser works closely with the financial administrator, participants of the EVS programme and the rest of the campaign team, providing support as needed. The ASEED team overall, including the fundraiser, are accountable to the Board and Council of ASEED, through regular updates and annual meetings held twice a year.
We are looking for someone with 3-5 years experience as fundraiser/campaigner. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of campaigning on food autonomy issues.
Tasks involve the coordination of activities related to fundraising, including strategic, financial and campaign planning, networking and other related activities. (Securing funding for the continuation of the paid position will be one of the tasks).
- fundraising experience
- ability to keep a broad overview
- strong sense of responsibility
- ability to work independently
- strong spoken/written fluency in both English & Dutch
- planning and organisational capacity building
- solution oriented – creative problem solver
- willingness to learn in the job
- affinity with food sovereignty issues (non-GMO, agroecology) and activism in general
- familiarity/experience with Linux and other open source software
