Between our monthly Fossil Free Agriculture open campaign meetings held in Amsterdam, the coordination of buses from the Netherlands to the mass civil disobedience action Ende Gelände in Rhineland, various events and meetings, we have been reasonably busy these last weeks at ASEED.

Mid-October, while the sun was still shining, ASEED joined the training weekend “Taking action to change food systems” organised by the “Peasant Action Brigades” citizens’ network and FIAN Belgium.

ASEED Europe is inviting all interested people to join our monthly open campaign meeting, on Tuesday September 11th in Amsterdam. This will be the third meeting since June.

ECJ ruling on gene editing products: Victory for consumers, farmers, environment

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) published on July 25th its ruling on the legal status of food and feed crops derived from certain new genetic modification techniques. It gave clear confirmation that organisms from these new gene editing techniques are covered by existing EU GMO regulation.

International call against patents on seeds. Prompted by the Bayer takeover of Monsanto, around 40 institutions active in plant breeding, agriculture and environmental protection are calling for effective measures to stop the patenting of conventionally bred plants and animals in Europe.

The European Coordination has just released a new publication on pesticides, “a small peasant agroecology manual on how to phase out the use of pesticides”.

Pesticides debate report: we need a paradigm shift

On Thursday, April 5th, the Green Office from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam organised a debate on pesticides and sustainable agriculture in order to assess the impact of chemical agriculture, and to ‘allow consumers to make a free choice‘.

On Thursday April 5th, ASEED will participate in a debate (In English) on pesticides organised by the Green Office of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. A representative from Syngenta and a professor in ecotoxicology will also be present.
