Reading group – Who controls the land?

November 25, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

It’s time for another reading group! After really interesting conversations last time about food sovereignty, this time we want to focus on an aspect essential to realize food sovereignty: land. Issues around land control, ownership and tenure can be complexly intertwined and definitions for the meaning of what is considered ‘land grabbing’ are varying. Struggles around land are manifold and vary from context to context, especially considering the sacred relationship many indigenous people have with land. We would like to invite you, together with others to learn more about issues around land tenure and land grabbing and exchange your thoughts and ideas on the topic and the readings.
The reading group will happen online again on the 25th of November  from 18:30-20:30.
This time we will be reading:
– Primer on Land Grabbing – Transnational Institute (TNI) (recommended reading of 15 pages)
– Land, Territory, Entropy – Guillermo Delgado-P. (appears in: Grabbing Back: Essays Against the Global Land Grab)
– The Netherlands and the Global Land and Water Grab – Hands off the land (2 pages, Key-findings)
If you want to participate you can contact alina[at]aseed[dot]net to reserve a spot. Keep in mind, that even if we are meeting online we want to keep the group small to enable a fruitful discussion so the max. amount of participants are 16 people. Once you have signed up we will send you the readings for this session and also later the zoom link to join the event. No previous knowledge is required, anyone who joins can have valuable insights!

Hope to see you in our next reading group session!
