Code Red activists block Cargill factory in Belgium

We’re excited to see that in the weekend of February 28th – March 1st, over 1400 activists from Code Red blocked Cargill’s factory in Ghent. Cargill is one of the world’s largest agri-food companies and is just like Yara a crucial player in upholding the global colonial-industrial food system. Because of the action, the factory had to stop their activities for 24 hours.

Afterwards, Code Red protested at Cargill’s headquarters in Mechelen and held a conference with farmers and activists about the future of agriculture.

In the words of Code Red: “Don’t forget: Cargill has a turnover of around 160 billion dollars with a profit of 2.5 billion worldwide, including 160 million in Belgium. This is only possible at the expense of farmers, workers, consumers and the planet. We want a food system that respects farmers, provides healthy food for everyone and does not damage the planet. Thank you all for showing up massively. You are our dream activists and Cargill’s worst nightmare”.
