Ten years ago ASEED had its UN-Corporated campaign against the corporate influence at ‘Rio+10’, the second big UN-summmit in Johannesburg. Also afterwards we have been doing actions against corporations and their lobby organisations because of the way they try to frustrate international climate and agriculture policy making. But up till now this development continues. Despite the fact that it is the goal of those companies to continue to grow, to increase their production and to maximise their profits, the UN gave they the status of ‘mayor group’ who can join the tasks about sustainable development. Because business has a higher budget its delegations are often way bigger than those from all civil society organisations together.
This is not very promising for Rio+20, the next Earth Summit which will take place in Rio again this July. For this reason ASEED signed the statement “Ending corporate capture of the United Nations” written by Corporate Europe Observatory, Via Campesina and others.
