Mycelia Farming Day at De Ommuurde Tuin!

On February 20th, the Mycelia of Hope working group organised a farming day at De Ommuurde Tuin in Renkum. The garden is situated on what used to be the garden of King Willem III, which in the last 25 years has been turned into an agroecological farm 🦋🪱

We spent the day spreading compost over the garden beds, moving large bags of soil, putting poles into the beds where beanstalks will be growing, and moving a giant portable greenhouse into a new place.

In between the hard work, we enjoyed a yummy potluck lunch and discussed the farm’s history and different ways in which farms can become more accessible and accommodating to marginalised people that often tend to be absent from these spaces. Together, we thought about questions such as:

🌼 How can agroecological farms reach out to a more diverse range of people in its nearby surroundings?

🌼 What is needed to make sure these people will feel included on the farm? What are events or projects that they might want to participate in?

🌼 How can we make sure that everyone is feeling safe and welcome to participate, especially people who might deal with physical limitations?

It was a fruitful discussion where we learned a lot from each other’s experiences and perspectives. Besides that, we also had lots of fun working together on the farm!

Thanks to all who joined and we hope to see you next time!
