It is not too difficult to start saving vegetable seeds from your own plants. But some types are easier than others. And in general it is good to read about some basic tricks first. With some information that is available online you will be able to try some seeds for advances seed savers as well. There is a lot of information online.[:]
A short and incomplete overview:
- A guide that explains the theory very well: ‘A Seed Saving Guide for Gardeners and Farmers‘ from the Organic Seed Alliance. And advantage of this pdf-document is that you can easily print it.
- Another good brochure for starters is ‘A Guide to Seed Saving, Seed Stewardship & Seed Sovereignty‘, also a printable PDF. Here you find as well some information about the importance of seed saving as action against the increasing power of large seed companies.
- A very complete overview of many different vegetables is the online ‘Vegetable Seed Saving Handbook‘
- Two other websites on seed saving:
- The website of the International Seed Savers Institute.
- The page with resources from ‘Seed Savers Exchange‘.
It would be good to find some similar information in Dutch and other languages, or to translate some of the listed information and publish our own brochure or website. Help for this is welcome! [with some credits for Linder from Eetbaar-groen.nl]
