Support national bans and against approval of 2 maize varieties
Crucial decisions are pending at the European Union’s level regarding the cultivation of genetically modified crops, which will have significant consequences for the future of our food, our health and the environment. The European Commission had proposed to force Austria, Hungary, France and Greece to lift safeguard measures they put in effect against Monsanto maize MON 810, the only GM crop currently allowed for cultivation in the EU. The European Commission also proposes to approve the cultivation of two GM maize crops (Syngenta Bt11 and Pioneer 1507). This would be the first approvals of the cultivation of a genetically modified crop in Europe since 1998.
Tell the Dutch Environment Minister Cramer, Agriculture Minister Verburg, and Health Minister Klink to vote against these proposals of the European Commission. You can also write other EU-ministers or collect signatures. Join in the cyber action!… verder lezen
On 20 January 2005, three delegates and 120 Federal Policemen from the Command for Tactical Operations carried out a war operation to take the Tupinikim and Guarani indigenous peoples in Espirito Santo state (Brazil) out of the 11,009 hectares of lands they had taken back peacefully in May 2005. Aracruz Celulose controlled these lands for almost 40 years. The police action was based on a decision on 7 December 2005 regarding this case by Federal Judge Rogério Moreira Alves from Linhares, in favour of the Aracruz company.

And released again!!
The bee-keeper Michael Grolm is the first ‘liberator’ of a gmo-field who went to jail in Germany because of his action. When he gave himself in on Thursday August 27 2009 he was accompanied by 200 anti-gm-activists, many bee-keepers and 10 tractors. After his release after 27 days in jail he Michael reponded: “Politicians can capture GM-opposants, but they can’t capture the gm pollen. By taking hostage activists the anti-gmo movement is only made stronger.” In the meanwhile another gm-activist has been send to jail because of a field liberation: Christian Pratz. On the website from Gendreck-Weg! you can find out how you can support him.

Land reforms! NO Steakholder Conferences!
Amsterdam – Today, A SEED Europe held a picket-line at a conference on genetically modified soy. The objective of the meeting was to discuss sustainability risks and benefits of GM soy and to formulate management options for companies. A SEED reminded participants upon arrival that not only is GM still controversial, but so is large-scale soy production in general. A SEED did not participate in the conference itself because the announcement made clear that in our eyes crucial poignant issues in the (GM) soy debate were not open for discussion. The organisors want to have a dialogue with the soy industry and that is impossible if the use of GM crops or production reduction are on the table. Read more in below press release on the conference and the criticism of the peasant movements in the south and critical organisatons in the north.… verder lezen
