LVC statement: UAWC Seed bank in Hebron, Palestine

Latest news on the Israeli military’s affront on Palestinian farmers and sovereignty: On the July 31st, 2025 Israeli forces raided UAWC’s seed multiplication unit in Hebron, where Palestinian peasants store traditional seed varieties as part of “years of organized work to maintain biodiversity and secure food systems that are independent, resilient, and rooted in peasant knowledge.” This is the second direct attack on UAWC by the Israeli military, where they destroyed both storage warehouses and the infrastructure of the Unit, which held equipment, tools, and seed materials for “seed reproduction”. These cases of violence are intentional attacks on Palestinians’ resilience and right to care and grow food on their land that attempt to destroy intergenerational ties of Palestinian farmers and their land, and ultimately, their food sovereignty.

Read La Via Campesina’s full statement condemning the attack and calling for international movements, institutions, and organisations to condemn the Israeli military’s attack on UAWC and Palestinian food sovereignty and call and fight for solidarity with “Palestinian farmers, land defenders, and peasants” as well as international condemnation and intervention for these inhumane crimes. ASEED condemns this attack and all attacks by Israeli forces attempting to erase Palestinian sovereignty and self-determination, and stands in solidarity with UAWC and its demands for international action towards defending Palestinian lives and their right to a dignified existence.
