In the night of August 1st climate activists occupied a piece of land in the community of Leuven and mounted their tents. The city council of Leuven wants to change the destination of the Parkveld in order to build houses and offices. But the climate action camp is in favour of keeping the agricultural land in and around cities and states that city agriculture is of crucial importance if cities like Leuven claim to be climate neutral.
The climate action camp will take place from 3 till 8 of August. From Belgium and other countries climate activists come together to debate, exchange experiences, to live together in a climate neutral, vegan and grassroots manner and to direct actions against climate change. One of the focusses of the camp will be the sooty black investments of system banks.
Saturday morning ASEED and the project Voedselstrategie Leuven will hold a workshop on food sovereignty and climate change.
