COLD BUT FRUITFUL

RICOevent
November has come to a close, marking the beginning of the icy season. Farm beds have been put to sleep, cover crops have broken through the crusty soil and at ASEED, we sniffle our way through more discussions and actions.

During the past month we attended documentary screenings and discussions facilitated by the RICO collective at the Rietveld academy, Nieuwland and De Ceuvel. Here we learnt about the genocide of the Mayan indigenous populations in Guatemala at the end of the 20th century. Next to this, the reading group continued with large attendance and eye-opening discussions on indigenous resistance in North America. We are still working on our reports of these events. We also attended the Local Conference of Youth to give a talk on our work at ASEED.

So after an insightful three months, we have closed the chapter of our first theme, Direct Action. A short recap of our activities & insights over those months can be read here. On top of all this we even had time to make our first podcast!! Our follow up theme for the months of December and January will be Gender & agriculture.

For December some ASEEDers will go to the COP25 and others will attend a week long seminar with our friends from Soberanía Almentaria in Mura, Barcelona to explore gender empowerment in rural areas. Of course some of the team will stay in Amsterdam and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. If you have any queries please get in touch!

Fossil Free Agriculture campaign - Strategy 2020 open meeting

After looking back on the first year of the Fossil Free Agriculture Campaign ASEED is calling on allies and interested people to join us for a meeting to look forward at the next year of the campaign. Under the umbrella of this campaign ASEED created and participated in a variety of direct actions, presentations, festivals, and farming activities. The goal was to raise awareness about state and corporate-controlled agriculture and it’s devastating effects on the climate, and communities around the world.

This campaign strategy meeting will take place on the 18th of January at the Pieter Nieuwlandstraat 93A from 10hr- 16hr, with lunch and a few breaks.

Over the course of the last year ASEED had 3 main focuses; collaboration with Platform Behoud Lutkemeer in Amsterdam, evolving the Food Autonomy Festival into a 3 day Action Camp, and coordinating with many European collectives on the Free the Soil Agricultural and Climate Justice Camp & Mass Action.

This campaign has relied on the tireless efforts and commitment of so many volunteers, to whom ASEED is incredibly grateful! We aim to keep growing this emancipatory movement around food autonomy and hope to do so by welcoming more dedicated climate and social justice warriors to our grassroots campaign!
