Meet our hosts, the Boerderij de Meent:
“A hospitable place outside the city where space is offered to social audiences to develop further. We do this by producing high-quality, local and sustainable food for social (eating) projects in the city; such as the Wereldhuis, the Schakel and Walk-in Homes of the Regenboog Groep. At De Meent, we strive to maximize social gains.”

We start the day at 9am with a small introduction by our hosts and division of tasks for the day, over tea and coffee. We understand that the event starts early and that it might be difficult for some people to join on time, especially for those who live further away. However, we choose to adjust to the schedule of our hosts at the farm, since it is their farming reality and we are guests

We will hear about De Meent and help out with gardening, cooking, carpentry and animalcare, depending on what is most needed that day.

The last months, the Mycelia van Hoop project has been exploring how to address the material conditions of migrants in the Netherlands and help to build mutual aid structures between farmers, migrants and activists. With that in mind, we have want to have a discussion over the connection of social justice and farming. Also, we will reflect on the different realities of farmers, activists, volunteers, participants, connect with and learn from each other.

We will take a lunch break all together and enjoy a meal made with ingredients from the farm and cooked by volunteers!
