Food Autonomy Festival #8: Growing resilient roots in common ground.
Let’s come together to build resilience in the food justice movement!
The 8th edition of the Food Autonomy Festival (FAF) will take place in Amsterdam in June 2024! For three days we will gather to address the political struggles related to food and agriculture and strengthen our resistance to the corporate-controlled industrial food system!
We want to create an open and accessible space for collectives, organizations, farmers, activists, artists, (young) academics, and anyone fighting for social and ecological justice. The FAF will be a space to share ideas, perspectives, knowledge and skills related to food, agriculture and social justice, and a moment to create new relationships and strengthen existing ones. Resistance requires imaging food futures outside the corporate-controlled industrial food system. At the FAF, we will celebrate existing alternatives and explore new ways of practicing food autonomy.
This year, as people across the world are fighting for their right to live, work and grow on their lands, for their liberation from oppressive and colonial entities, we find it particularly important to highlight the political nature of food and agriculture. Who has access to (growing) food? Who has the power to decide who can grow what and where? Who is profiting from the agrochemical dependence? The FAF will be a space to share and learn from each others struggles for autonomy as well as the struggles we face within our movements. A site of resistance, solidarity, and autonomy, where we challenge racism, sexism, coloniality, and oppression in all its forms.
Therefore, on the 21st-23rd of June, we will come together at ADM Noord / Het Groene Veld to explore three intersecting themes through open discussions, workshops, hands-on farming activities and cultural events:
1. Social justice in food systems
– Powerful intersectionality inside our movements
– Neocolonial agribusiness
– Climate change and the increasing pressure on farmers worldwide
– Understanding intersectionality in access and supply chains
– Struggles for land, liberation, and self-determinism
– Movement building and solidarity
2. Food autonomy in practice
– Interactive workshop on alternative fertilizers
– Connecting with Dutch farmers
– Can small-scale farming feed the world?
– How much autonomy do you have over your food?
3. Fighting agrochemicals & Corporate control
– The dangers of agrochemicals and ‘The Green Revolution’
– The role of civil disobedience
– Global farmer’s protests
– Current legislation: what should we be aware of?
– Workshop on alternative imaginaries and counter-narratives
4. Culture & Entertainment
– Artivism
– T-shirt printing
– Rest and regeneration
– Music under the trees

Food Autonomy Festival #8: Het kweken van veerkrachtige wortels op gemeenschappelijke grond.
Laten we samenkomen om veerkracht op te bouwen in de voedselrechtvaardigheidsbeweging!
De 8e editie van het Food Autonomy Festival (FAF) vindt plaats in Amsterdam in juni 2024! Drie dagen lang zullen we samenkomen om de politieke strijd met betrekking tot voedsel en landbouw aan te kaarten en ons verzet tegen het door bedrijven gecontroleerde industriële voedselsysteem te versterken!
We willen een open en toegankelijke ruimte creëren voor collectieven, organisaties, boeren, activisten, kunstenaars, (jonge) academici en iedereen die vecht voor sociale en ecologische rechtvaardigheid. De FAF zal een ruimte zijn om ideeën, perspectieven, kennis en vaardigheden met betrekking tot voedsel, landbouw en sociale rechtvaardigheid te delen, en een moment om nieuwe relaties aan te gaan en bestaande te versterken. Verzet vereist een toekomstbeeld van voedsel buiten het door bedrijven gecontroleerde industriële voedselsysteem. Op de FAF vieren we bestaande alternatieven en verkennen we nieuwe manieren om voedselautonomie te beoefenen.
Dit jaar, nu mensen over de hele wereld vechten voor hun recht om op hun land te leven, te werken en bevrijd te worden van onderdrukkende en koloniale entiteiten, vinden we het belangrijk om de politieke aard van voedsel en landbouw te benadrukken. Wie heeft toegang tot (het verbouwen van) voedsel? Wie heeft de macht om te beslissen wie wat mag verbouwen en waar? Wie profiteert van de agrochemische afhankelijkheid? De FAF zal een ruimte zijn waar je kunt leren van elkaars strijd voor autonomie en de strijd die we voeren binnen onze bewegingen. Een plek van verzet, solidariteit en autonomie, waar we racisme, seksisme, kolonialisme en onderdrukking in al zijn vormen bestrijden.
Daarom komen we op 21-23 juni samen in ADM Noord / Het Groene Veld om drie thema’s te verkennen die elkaar kruisen: sociale rechtvaardigheid in voedselsystemen, vechten tegen landbouwchemicaliën en bedrijfscontrole, en voedselautonomie in de praktijk, door middel van open discussies, workshops, praktische landbouwactiviteiten en culturele evenementen.
