ASEED Reading Group: Green Colonialism x Industrial Agriculture

April 18 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The next session of our Green Colonialism reading group is coming up!

Green Colonialism is a concept that can be used to identify patterns in international relations that follow the colonial logic of (economical) domination, forced dependencies and extraction. The word “green” signifies the focus on projects that are called sustainable, climate change mitigation, adaptation or green transition. With these arguments or buzzwords, systems of exploitation and skewed relations are justified – yet again “for the greater good”.

To dive deeper into this topic we have two more sessions coming up:
2. Green Colonialism X Industrial Agriculture
3. Green colonialism in Palestine

We’ll provide a list of materials in different formats to look at for the session, so you can engage with the topic according to your capacity and interests. Send an email to pia[at]aseed.net to let us know that you want to join the next reading group session, so we can send you a list of recommended materials to browse (approx. one week before the meeting).
There are no requirements to attend (= no time to read anything before -> come anyway!), we just want to facilitate the opportunity to learn about these important topics together!

As always, we will keep a focus on food systems and land. Are you interested in finding out the intersections of green colonialism and the industrial food system? So are we! Do you just want to know what the hell ‘green tech’ is all about and why it’s a goddamn scam? Have you never heard of any of these things but want some good introductory sources and a nice evening at the Dokhuis? Stay tuned!

Our next session is on the 18th of April.
